Exchange Definition

An exchange basically means each class shares something with the other class. Make this simple for your first connection.

Some Popular Exchange Projects

These exchange projects are set up for a 45 minute videoconference. Each class shares for 15 min. followed by 15 min. for question and answer. However you can take the idea and do the same type of project with a partner class anytime.

Adapting the Format

The exchange format is simple and straightforward and can be adapted for any content. Here's a couple example templates.

Science, Health or Math Exchange

Topic: Scientific demonstration or explain a concept. Students could share digital pictures of environment or habitat to share with a class which is located in a different ecosystem. This project could be continued throughout the year as the seasons change.
Time frame: You will need a few class periods prior to the connection to prepare your presentation and a 45-60 minute videoconference.
Preparation: Decide how to present the topic (lecture, discussion, hands on activity). Decide how to involve the other class in your presentation. Plan for visuals. Assign tasks and involve as many of your own students as possible. Prepare your presentation.
Agenda: 50 minutes

Language Arts and Social Studies Exchange
Topic: You pick! What are you teaching that students could share with another site? For example, you might have students present a book that they have written, share a reader’s theatre, sing a song, or present some research.
