Our City News Report

We are a rural town currently participating in the Our City Podcast. We would like to perform the podcast live to another class with a question and answer session following. We will share our city, then answer questions (Option 1). If the partner site completes the Our City project also, they would also share their city, then answer questions (Option 2).

Project time frame

February or March

How to sign up

Option 1: One class shares. We can connect to 2 classes.

Option 2: Both classes share. We will connect to only 1 class.

We are looking for an elementary class (grade 3 preferably) in an urban or suburban area. Please email me at mdavis1@remc11.k12.mi.us.

IP or ISDN?

This project is open to both IP and ISDN connections.

Learner Outcomes

This project encompasses history, geography, rural communities, and climate. Students will research and write about their community.

Methods and Activities

Before the conference: The host site will prepare a presentation about their community using scripts, PowerPoint, maps, and posters.

During the conference: The host site will present their presentation and the receiving sites will be invited to take notes. At the end, the host site will answer any questions from the receiving sites.

After the conference: The receiving sites and host sites will exchange thank you letters (regular mail or email) about the videoconference. Receiving sites will evaluate the presentations (Stars and Wishes).

Materials

The host site will be using PowerPoint, so a computer will be needed. They will also share maps and posters.

Videoconference Details.

Time: 1 class period, about 40 minutes if only our class shares information (Option 1). If another class shares, then it would take about 50 minutes (Option 2).
