Methods and Activities

Activities:

PRE : Students from both locations will brainstorm ideas about the area they will be VCing with (TX and MI). They will write what they expect to see and hear from the location they will be visiting.

Students will then think of a list of 5 questions as a group for the other classroom relating to respective cultures, weather, economies, etc.

Students will also come up with 5 questions independently and submit them to their respective teachers. This second set of questions will be more conversational in nature. Teachers will pull from the large group of questions and select 5 conversational questions their class will ask.

There will be a total of 10 formal (pre-written) questions asked by each class.

Activity: Students will introduce themselves and ask their questions in english.

1 class will ask 1 question and note the response. The other class will then ask one of their questions and note response.

Teachers may have the whole class sitting and have one students stand to ask the question. Students who are answering the questions will be selected by their respective teachers.

Interaction will be teacher guided/facilitated for he formal question session but a more casual exchange between students will be encouraged at the end of the session.

POST: Students will decide which question they anticipated the answers to accurately and which questions were answered in a suprising way. Students in their own classrooms then will determine what preconcieved ideas about the respective culture/weather/lifestyle they had.

Students will need their class's list of questions and something to write with.
