Using A to Z, where can we be?

One class period--50 minutes.

Learner Outcomes

Students will identify the state presented based on clues about its region.

 

Methods and Activities

Pre-conference activities include: The topic will be conveyed by presentation, discussion and the use of hands-on materials such as a map or atlas. The post-conference activity would be a paper written by the participating students about the state they discovered in the videoconference. A description of the students' favorite part of the state could be included.

 

Materials

Students will create posters to present clues to the state they are from. Poster clues will be in the format of an alphabet book, i.e., A is for Auburn University. Students at the host school will read the book, Alabama from A-Z, to the guest school at the conclusion of the conference.

 

Videoconference Details.

Time:

5 minutes for introductions

20 minutes for students to present clues about the host state

15 minutes to discuss the identity of the mystery state

10 minutes to present the book, Alabama from A-Z

 

Responsibilities:

Students at the host school will present the book along with any visual aides they have created to describe the book. The teachers will guide the presentation. The teachers will also put the students into cooperative learning groups. Each group will discuss and present the state that was unidentified in the presentation.

 

Agenda:

Host sight will present the information about the unidentified location. Other sights will discover the location of the host school. Visuals will be the book, Alabama, A-Z and posters made by the students.
